NetWare for the HP 9000 performance testing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
System
~~~~~~
9000/700
64Mb memory (max memory actually used during the tests was 30Mbyte)
HP Vue running throughout tests but with nothing active. Also note
that the second run of the two load test seems to be erroneous,
possibly due to excessive activity on the non-isolated LAN segment.
Performance tests
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PC Magazine LAN LABS test: Using sequential and randon reads/writes
with a 1Mbyte file on the server. The same tests were run on the
measurement machine with 1-5 other PCs acting as load generators. The
load generated was of hard-disk access, and is claimed to represent on
the order of 10-20 real users per client.
Results of Portable Netware LANPERF Tests.
These tests measure throughput for a single client performing
sequential writes and then sequential reads to a file on the server.
File Size: 256 Kbyte.
Write Test Duration: 60 Seconds.
Read Test Duration: 60 Seconds.
All results in Kbyte/Sec.
* This test was run with a 4 Kbyte (instead of 256 Kbyte) test file to
eliminate a disk/IO bottleneck.
Notes:
(1) Tests measure throughput at the client.
(2) Tests performed on an isolated LAN.
(3) 720 running HP-UX Version 8.05 and Netware Version 3.01B.
(4) 486/33 running DOS 5.0 and Netware 386 Version 3.11.
(5) CPU utilization estimated via GLANCEXL on MPE/XL, Monitor on
HP-UX, and the Netware MONITOR utility on the 486.
